Application in Reinforced Plastics

Wollastonite applied in rubber and plastics started from 1970s in Europe and America. It firstly used in the USA. Wollastonite has occupied 10-15% in the market of inorganic filler. It can not only act as a filler like heavy calcium carbonate, but also as reinforced materials like mica, talc, sometimes partly replace asbestos and glass fiber. It has been widely applied in epoxy resin, phenolic resin, SPEU, polyolefin and some other plastics.

The application of wollastonite in rubber is due to it's fiber structure can replace the expensive glass fiber, carbon fiber and asbestos that is harm to the health of human. On the other hand, the surface of the resin which used glass fiber is coarse, it can avoid this defect if it can be used together with wollastonite. It has advantage of unobvious surface scratch and weathering resistance Thus wollastonite has been widely applied in electronic component, packaging materials, high performance plastic products, car crust, mould, light disk materials, especially nylon, PP and other engineering plastic.
